Item: Big Bat Pourier US Indian Scout 1858 Remington
Description: New Model Remington 1858, with Holster, name inscribed on blackstrap, serial number on frame and also inside grips!
Baptiste “Big Bat” Pourier 7/16/1842-9/17/1928, served as Indian Scout and guide During the Indian wars.
Leaving home at 15 yrs of age and learning to trade with the Indians molded one of the great Scouts/interpreter and guide of the day. The first trip Bat made with John Richards a fellow Frenchman and a frontiersman, he met with Red Cloud and became friends with the Chief. He participated in many battles and served in 1868 at Ft Laramie Peace Conference as an interpreter. Copies of Military records included.
Many books and stories are written of Big Bat’s vast accomplishments and his adventurous life.
